Student Liaison Officer and Criminology graduate Sophie Rowe featured in this month's issue of 'Inside Time', a monthly newspaper for prison inmates, discussing her recent research into the advantages of befriending prisoners.
Sophie's report claimed that the befriending of prisoners helps them to work towards successful re-integration into the community and reduces the likelihood of re-offending. Her research supports work carried out by organisations like the New Bridge Foundation, which puts inmates from prisons and secure hospitals in touch with trained volunteers.
Leading Criminologist Professor David Wilson congratulated Sophie on her dedication to research: "Sophie has done this in her spare time, but to the highest standard and clearly her work is also highly regarded by New Bridge. Indeed, if we are looking at research having impact, it is good to know that our younger academics are beginning to understand the connections between research and practice. We have an excellent academic in the making here."
