A Senior Lecturer from Birmingham School of the Built Environment (BSBE) has been shortlisted for an award at this year's Times Higher Education Awards.
Now in their eighth year, the Times Higher Education Awards are a highlight of the academic calendar and a celebration of the best in UK higher education.
Matthew Smith, Course Director of BSc (Hons) Real Estate, is nominated in the 'Most Innovative Teacher of the Year' award category, following his work at Birmingham City University where he has introduced a toolkit of innovations to help boost the learning experience of students.
To reflect the 3D nature of his teaching relating to the construction sector, Matthew has applied a decade of experience and working in partnership with his students to develop a sophisticated set of bespoke pedagogical innovations including iPhone apps, interactive seminars and electronic certificates.
Matthew said: "Students are the most important part of the learning experience and it is only by working as a partner with them that I can continue to positively influence their learning in a way that will go with them into industry."
This year's ceremony will be hosted by David Walliams and takes place on Thursday 29 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. For more information, visit www.the-awards.co.uk.
