The Co-founder of $3 billion dollar communication company Slack has urged graduates to follow in his footsteps and set up their own businesses as he scooped an award recognising his achievements.
Cal Henderson, co-founder of the US app and the first person ever hired to work for Flickr spoke today as he received an Alumni of the Year Award from Birmingham City University.
With UK start-up businesses booming, Cal said there are a vast amount of opportunities available to budding entrepreneurs.
"When I first graduated back in 2002 the idea of starting your own business wasn't an option. It wasn't something that you could do easily. These days more and more people are seeing this as an option, and there are more and more opportunities out there."
Cal, who graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in software engineering, was honoured with his award as part of the University's graduation ceremonies this week and advised graduates to do something they enjoy.
He collected his award during a Ceremony held at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall today alongside graduates from the University’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment.
