School of Law student awarded prestigious scholarship

A third year student from Birmingham City University School of Law has been awarded a scholarship at a prestigious Society of Lawyers in London.

Siobhan Freeman has been awarded the £6000 scholarship at The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and is now officially a Lincoln’s Inn Scholar. Lincoln’s Inn is one of the UK’s four Inns of Court who play a fundamental role in preparing students for call to the Bar.

Twenty-six year old Siobhan, from Birmingham, applied for a place at Birmingham City University through the UCAS Clearing process, and has since taken every opportunity to improve her employability prospects through involving herself heavily in the School of Law’s highly successful Mooting Society.

Siobhan said: “I am both shocked and delighted. I had a tough second year and didn’t think I was cut out for Law, but my lecturers encouraged me to apply and discussed the interview with me beforehand- they have always been really supportive.

“Two years ago I was a young single mum from Birmingham with no idea what the future held. This just proves that you don’t have to move away for university just for the sake of it, if the university is right for you that should be the deciding factor.”

Once finishing her LLB (Hons) degree at Birmingham City University Siobhan is hoping to study for the Bar Professional Training Course and find a pupillage.
