Visitors to Birmingham City University’s Open Day this weekend will be tasked with solving ‘who dunnit’ at a mock crime scene inside the Universty’s new £63m Curzon Building.

Would-be students visiting the City Centre Campus on Saturday 3 October will be invited by the University’s expert criminologists to analyse crime scene evidence, whilst trying to understand the motives of offenders.

Emma Kelly, Lecturer in Criminology at Birmingham City University, said: “The exercise will provide an insight into studying at our School of Social Sciences, while also helping students to better understand career path options in criminology, psychology and forensics.

“We’ll be encouraging visitors to ask questions about the crime scene, such as whether the murder might’ve been linked to other crimes and if the crime scene may have been staged in any way to hinder investigation.

The Open Day is taking place from 9am to 3pm, across three of the University’s campuses – the City Centre Campus at Eastside, City South in Edgbaston and City North in Perry Barr.

The University’s School of Art at Margaret Street and School of Jewellery at Vittoria Street will also be welcoming prospective students.

Visitors to the University’s City South Campus will be invited to visit a mock operating theatre and hospital wards, whilst also being given the opportunity to observe paramedics as they simulate a mock accident scenario.
