Birmingham City University to welcome new Chancellor

Birmingham City University will be installing the new Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Mike Leddy, as the Chancellor of the University at a special ceremony on Monday 1 July in the Banqueting Suite at the Council House in Birmingham City Centre.

The event will also recognise the outstanding contribution made to the University during his year of office by the outgoing Chancellor, Councillor John Lines. Councillor Lines is to be being presented with a commemorative silver bowl, produced by the University’s School of Jewellery.

The installation of Councillor Leddy continues the tradition established in 1992 when the former Birmingham Polytechnic was granted University status and resolved to reflect its commitment to the City by installing the Lord Mayor as its Chancellor.

The event will be attended by guests comprising of senior staff at of the University, members of the University's Board of Governors, Honorary Award Holders and members of the local business and education community.
