Former Lord Mayor to receive university honour

Birmingham City Councillor and former Lord Mayor of Birmingham Randal Brew OBE JP FCA will receive an honorary doctoral degree from the University next week.

Born and raised in Birmingham, Councillor Brew attended King Edward School and Kings Norton Grammar School for Boys. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he worked for various practices across the city before setting up his own practice in 1993.

Brew was first introduced to politics in 1974, and was elected as Birmingham City Councillor in 1987. He was awarded an OBE in 1991 by Her Majesty the Queen for political and public service.

From 2007 – 2008 Brew served as Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and on taking this role became Chancellor of Birmingham City University.

On being chosen for the award he said:

Councillor Brew will receive his award on Thursday 3 September at the Awards Congregation ceremony, held at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, which will celebrate the work and achievements of students graduating from the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment.
