Dozens of the last year’s best British animated films will be shown for free in Birmingham next week as part of the country’s top animation awards.
Visitors will be given the chance to play their part by watching up to 34 short films shortlisted in the Public Choice category of the British Animation Awards – before voting for their favourite.
Birmingham City University will be showing the movies at the Mockingbird Theatre and Bar in the Birmingham’s Digbeth area from Monday February 8 – Wednesday February 10.
Screenings begin at 8.00pm on Monday and Tuesday and 7:00pm on Wednesday with viewers handed voting forms after each session.
Votes will be collated at events across the country to help crown this year’s winner.
This is the second time screenings and voting for the Public Choice award have been held in Birmingham and the eventual winner will be unveiled at the British Animation Awards ceremony to be held on at British Film Institute, Southbank, on March 10.
“The night will be presented by the voice legend Marc Silk, whom has many credentials behind the voices of Johnny Bravo, Aks Moe in Star Wars, the Pingu Show, US Bob the Builder and many more. It will be a chance to see the latest and the best animated shorts produced nationally. ”
Filmmakers from across Britain have submitted their entries in two categories (Best Commissioned Animation: Documentary Best Commissioned Animation: Promotional) for the British Animation Awards.
The Public Choice Award is the only one selected by members of the public and Birmingham will be one of eight cities across the country to screen the shortlisted pictures.
