Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Technology, Engineering and the Environment welcomed a delegation from Changzhou Municipal Government to Millennium Point on Thursday 28th October 2010.

The visit was hosted by Dr Peter Rayson, Associate Dean, with support from Professor Mel Lees, Executive Dean and additional members of the Faculty’s School of Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Systems.

The delegation was led by Li Pei Ran, Deputy Secretary General, Changzhou Municipal Government who was joined by senior members from other private companies from the Chinese Province of Changzhou. Changzhou is approximately three times the size of Birmingham, with a population of around three million.

Following a tour of the Faculty’s impressive facilities at Millennium Point, fruitful discussions were held about the possibility of developing a joint study programme, involving Birmingham City University, Changzhou University, Shanghai Automotive, SAP and local Chinese industry partners. Such a programme would allow Chinese students to combine their local studies, with a rich overseas experience capitalising on the University’s proficiency in areas such as Enterprise Systems Management through its links with SAP.

This visit continues an extremely successful period of engagement with the University and Changzhou, which goes back five years. Further collaborative opportunities are also being explored through our Cisco Networking Academy, in addition to the areas of low carbon and digital technology.
