Poster designs by a Birmingham lecturer celebrating London’s parks and gardens have gone on display on the London Underground network.

Kate Farley, programme leader for Textile Design at Birmingham City University, hints at nostalgia of the 1930s poster heydays in her posters, acknowledging the work of designers Tom Purvis and Tom Eckersley.

“I wanted to bring that vision to contemporary London whilst taking inspirations from London’s parks and gardens to showcase the capital, creating eye-catching and colour-drenched visuals”, said Kate.

Park activities that are featured in Kate’s four poster designs include rowing and model yacht sailing, as well as capturing the city’s skyline and avenues of trees.

The design process involved sketching and taking photographs of subjects, before cutting out each element for scanning and digital manipulation.

There are four poster designs to spot which can also be purchased online at the London Transport Museum shop.
