Experienced higher education leader Professor Graham Upton will take up the post of Interim Vice-Chancellor at Birmingham City University with effect from 1 December 2016.
Professor Upton has a wealth of experience in leading successful universities, including ten years in charge of Oxford Brookes University. He also has extensive knowledge of the West Midlands and the wider region, having served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham earlier in his career.
Commenting on the appointment, Pro-Chancellor and Board Chairman, Mark Hopton, said:
Professor Upton said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as Interim Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University at such an exciting time. It is great to be returning to the city where I was born and spent an important part of my earlier career prior to my move to Oxford Brookes.”
Professor Upton’s appointment comes in the week Birmingham City University installed Sir Lenny Henry as its new Chancellor in a high profile launch event at Birmingham Town Hall.
Professor Upton is a Deputy Lieutenant and former High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.
