Known as the Jewellery Oscars, the annual showpiece rewards excellence in technical skills and creative design in precious metals and related materials.

“I’m delighted The Colleges Trophy has returned to the School of Jewellery,” said Lee Lapthorne, BCU’s Head of College for Jewellery, Fashion and Textiles.

“The overall number of student winners is a testament to the talented staff and dedication to instilling craft skills and innovation in our teaching.

“The work we produce is world-class and our position as an international leader is unrivalled. Congratulations to our students and staff for being winners.”

The SoJ enjoyed a stunning array of individual success at the awards ceremony in London to wrest the overall title back from Glasgow School of Art, who won the event in 2023, and see off the challenge of Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins.

The College Trophy (pictured) goes to the college or university that has achieved the highest total of points accumulated from any gold, silver and bronze awards given in the competition.

The SoJ’s student winners were Clare Maiden, Ziyi Zhuang, Arthur Howard, Sahara Aburaneh, Lilli Canham, Rachel Chung and Xilin Hu.

Graduates Prapasri Suwannakhot, Daniel Rushby, Augusta Lazenby and Yinglong Li also picked up a number of bronze and silver awards, with HND graduate and specialist laser tutor Paul Bailey-Green also earning recognition.

Some of the competition submissions will be able to view at the Birmingham Assay Office, in the heart of the iconic Jewellery Quarter, on Wednesday 20 March, 2-6pm.

The event is free to attend and open to the general public. Tickets can be booked here
