Birmingham City University is to host a free day of screenings and discussions celebrating the legacy of Sir Michael Balcon, the Birmingham-born film producer who led Ealing Studios during its most successful era.

The 'Into The Light' event on Saturday 12 October will provide film professionals and enthusiasts with an insight into Balcon's achievements as a leading figure in the world of film, as co-founder of BAFTA and the role he played in launching the careers of Alfred Hitchcock and Diana Dors.

Speakers at the event at Birmingham City University's new Parkside Building are set to include Lord David Puttnam, Sir Albert Bore and Balcon grandchildren Tamasin Day-Lewis and Deborah Richards.

Birmingham City University's brand new Parkside Building opened to students in September and is part of a £260 million investment into the University's estate, bringing together the University's world-class design and media provision to form a creative learning hub and the biggest broadcast centre in any UK university.
