Law students from Birmingham City University School of Law recently embarked on a trip to visit the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and Houses of Parliament in London.
The field trip was organised by Dr Jon Yorke so that the LLM students could help relate what they had learnt in their studies to the real thing. The trip included comprehensive tours of both the Supreme Court and Houses of Parliament.
Sheikh Sela, LLM International Human Rights student, said: “Too often students can begin to feel isolated in books and academic literature and forget that law relates to real life. I can undoubtedly say that visiting the UK Supreme Court has brought law to life for me. This form of personal development is priceless.”
Dr Jon Yorke, Associate Director for the Centre of American Legal Studies, said: “This is such a great opportunity for our LLM Students – it means they can apply all the knowledge they have built up over the past year to something real and that will prove invaluable when it comes to working in the real world.”
The School of Law at Birmingham City University has been at the forefront of innovative law teaching for more than 40 years and has outstanding graduate employability with 93% of 2009 graduates securing a job or further study. The School offers two LLM courses - in International Business Law and International Human Rights.
