A Coventry school has been shortlisted for a prestigious educational award after taking part in a unique university programme which aims to help professionals better understand the behaviour of themselves and others.
Bablake Junior School has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Wellbeing Initiative of the Year’by the Times Educational Supplement (TES) Independent School Awards, thanks to the help of Intelligent Behaviour Analytics.
Intelligent Behaviour Analytics is a module taught on the University’s ‘Transforming and Leading Healthcare’ MSc course.
It aims to equip students with the skills to better understand their own behaviour and in turn, the behaviour of others; skills which are vital to successfully navigating workplace relationships, avoiding conflicts and contributing to positive situations.
Bablake Junior School has been working with Intelligent Behaviour Analytics to enhance relationships, communication and understanding, to create an environment where teachers feel confident and resilient.
The module was put into practice in a pilot study at the junior school which has since seen it shortlisted for the prestigious award.
The winner of the award, which recognises schools that have made an outstanding contribution to wellbeing, will be revealed at a ceremony in February.
Deputy Head, Lorrian Holder, will deliver a talk on how the school has enhanced staff and wellbeing using Intelligent Behaviour Analytics at the University’s upcoming conference ‘From Striving to Thriving - Addressing Mental Health and wellbeing in Education: Nurturing Resilience in Teaching’.
The conference will take place at Birmingham City University’s City South Campus on Friday 30 November.
Professor Adam Crizzle, visiting professor at Birmingham City University’s Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences, said: “It is fantastic to see the components of our module put into practise in an education context and we are absolutely thrilled that it has contributed to Bablake Junior School’s well deserved shortlisting in the TES Independent School Awards.
TES editor Ann Mroz said: “Those shortlisted for the TES Independent School Awards are the crème de la crème.
“We received a record number of entries this year and the standard is the highest yet, so to be shortlisted is an extraordinary achievement for any school.”
The winners will be revealed at a gala awards evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Friday 1 February 2019.
