One of the day's highlights revealed the exam development process used by the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's leading provider of Linux certification.
Stephen Murphy, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University and head of the Birmingham City University LPI Academy said: “Certification providers such as LPI have already solved some of the issues now faced by higher education, issues such as ensuring integrity and validity of assessments when scaled to hundreds or thousands of candidates, over different sites at different times.”
Bill Quinn, CEO of LPI UK added: “Combining the objectives from a Vendors Certification program provides learners with enhanced employment opportunities. Vendors of Certification work with industry completing job task analysis so that when a Certification is launched it delivers to the employment need. Academia can leverage this research by building their curriculum around the existing vendor Certifications.”
