There's so much going on in Birmingham – from the buzzy street markets to the unmissable transformation of the whole city and our campus. Study here and you'll be at the heart of it all. You too could be taught by our trailblazing academics and study in our innovative £400m facilities. When possible, the best way to explore what's on offer is to come and see us in person.

Who is this for?

It’s open to everyone that wants to visit us in person, but it’s definitely for you if you:

Want to explore our ultra-modern facilities and learning spaces: The best way to experience the facilities we provide is by visiting us on campus at an Open Day. We are currently undertaking a £400 million investment programme in our facilities.

Are a graduate who wants to earn more: Someone with a Master’s degree or PhD earns £6,500 more per year, or £260,000 over a 40-year working life, than someone with an undergraduate degree. (Graduate Labour Market Statistics 2022, Department for Education).

Want to study a postgraduate course at a modern university in a major city: We’re at the heart of the UK’s second-largest city with a population of over 1.1 million people – over 85,000 of which are students at the city’s five universities (West Midlands Growth Company 2021). Birmingham is also the youngest major city in the UK, with under-20s accounting for 28% of its population (ONS 2020).

Want to study a course which develops your employability: Our postgraduate courses are designed to deliver practice-based learning and career-focused opportunities. We provide the chance to gain industry and professional practice experience through work placements, mentoring schemes and events.

Are a friend, family or carer of someone who’s considering a place at university: You’re very welcome to come along and experience the day.

What can I do?

Enjoy a tailored and personalised experience: You'll be able to attend subject-specific talks and sample lectures, as well as having the opportunity to chat with lecturers, staff and current students to get your questions answered and see if BCU's the right fit for you. There are also general talks and info for things like finance and accommodation.

Explore our facilities and take tours: Part of choosing your university course is ensuring the facilities you'd be using are up to scratch. From our computing labs to mock wards for Nursing students, you can find out everything you need to know about our state-of-the-art facilities at our Open Day to ensure you'll be using the industry standard, preparing you for the world of work before you even graduate. You can also check out the locations and quality of accommodation on bookable tours that happen throughout the day.

Research different courses: Can't decide between a few areas or courses? This is the perfect way to do some in-depth research and compare a few courses, hearing from academics who teach each course and exploring what careers you could end up in depending on the course you choose.

Find out more about postgraduate finance: We know that finance and funding options are a key consideration for postgraduate study. At our open day, you'll have the chance to attend informative talks and speak to staff about the scholarship and funding options open to you.

Meet lecturers and staff: From handy course overview talks from the staff who would be teaching you, to Q+A sessions on the day covering subject-specific information and then more practical information, getting to meet our friendly staff and asking them your burning questions is a great way to decide on the right course for you.

Ask about placements, careers and employability: An important part of choosing a course is figuring out what career options this opens up for you, and what the employability is like in that field. We have a Careers+ and Graduate+ team to help you build your skills, and at our Open Day you can chat to our Student Support team, as well as the relevant academics for your subject area, to find out about the options to get experience during your studies, and what careers alumni have gone on to.

Find out about other services on offer to enhance your learning experience: Whether it's help with structuring your essays, referencing advice or just how to make the most of your time at university, you can find out more about those little extras that make all the difference at our Open Days. Our academics will explain how their roles are more than just teaching, and you can explore more of the library and student support services on offer.
