Top cricket T20 side Birmingham Bears will be swinging into action later this month – and once again we’ll be backing them.
The Bears, who are Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s T20 side, will have high hopes of success in this year’s NatWest T20 Blast after winning the title in 2014 and making the semis last year.
The University has been a sponsor of the Bears and Warwickshire CCC since 2014, and will continue to support them through the 2016 season.
Part of the sponsorship deal allows current Birmingham City University students and staff to buy discounted tickets for several of the Bears’ home fixtures at Edgbaston Stadium.
The first Birmingham Bears home game of the season against local rivals Worcestershire Rapids on Friday 27 May, with these home fixtures to follow:
-
Friday 3 June Birmingham Bears v Durham Jets
-
Friday 10 June Birmingham Bears v Yorkshire Vikings
-
Sunday 19 June Birmingham Bears v Lancashire Lightning
-
Friday 1 July Birmingham Bears v Northamptonshire Steelbacks
-
Sunday 17 July Birmingham Bears v Leicestershire Foxes
-
Friday 22 July Birmingham Bears v Notts Outlaws
The club has also recently announced that two women’s team fixtures will be played at Edgbaston in the 2016 season. Birmingham Bears Women will take on Nottinghamshire on Sunday 19 June before Ian Bell and the men's team face Lancashire Lightning.
The second double header will be on Sunday 17 July with Birmingham Bears Women against Lancashire, followed by the men's team against Leicestershire Foxes.
Placements
One of the benefits of our relationship with Warwickshire CCC has been the ability to give our students valuable work experience at the club.
Several have already benefitted from a year's placement, including Marketing, Advertising and PR - BA (Hons) student Shauna Murray.
