The Millennium Point Scholarship is an annual competition which aims to encourage young people to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) at higher education level. The scholarship provides full tuition fee funding as its main prize.
The five finalists were asked to present their ideas for the future to a live crowd and a number of high-profile, Birmingham business leaders. Impressing the judges and live audience alike, Shennice Talburt was named as the winner of the Millennium Point Scholarship. Her innovative ideas and determination to tackle one of the region’s biggest issues helped her to shine out of 160 overall applicants.
Shennice has chosen to study Real Estate BSc (Hons) at Birmingham City University, in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE). She aims to help solve the UK’s housing crisis, starting with the West Midlands.
The course will allow Shennice to gain a detailed understanding of real estate. It will integrate technological, financial, legal and management issues. She’ll also get the opportunity to connect the theories and practice of real estate to a range of real-life case studies.
The course has close links with industry and will thoroughly prepare Shennice for the varied work of a general practice surveyor.
Shennice will be joining CEBE later this year where she will be able to nurture and grow her innovative ideas.
Millennium Point will offer ongoing support to the other four finalists. This includes coaching, mentoring and valuable industry work experience.
