Talented fine art students from Birmingham City University took a break from the classroom last week to celebrate their work and achievements at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design’s (BIAD) annual Graduate Shows.

Third year students on the BA (hons) Fine Art course, unveiled their work at an awards ceremony to launch the week long show to the public. The awards celebrated the talent and creativity of students and were presented by sponsors Ikon, Associated Architects, Capsticks, Savills, Pip Seymour, Sir Whitworth Wallis and Grand Union with awards also presented by David Smith Ryland - descendant of Louisa Anne Ryland who contributed to the Birmingham School of Art Margaret Street Campus.

Student Sophie Bullock received two of the awards for her moving image piece, titled ‘Mirror. Screen. Dream.’ which depicted the subconscious effect of cinema. Using archived footage her work illustrated how cinema represents a dreamlike state. Sophie was awarded a £200 book voucher from Ikon and the opportunity for a network lunch with two of Ikon’s directors.

The Graduate Shows are a culmination of 3 years work and showcase the talent and creativity of students within Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD).
