William Ellis

William Ellis is a Visiting Research Fellow in Photographing Popular Music Culture. He is a professional photographer of international renown specialising in popular music photography, and a key contributor to the Global Reggae Research Project at BCU.

William’s work has been extensively exhibited, most recently in Edinburgh and Tokyo. He has published in various popular music journals, and he has presented his work in several conferences, including the Jazz and the Media Symposium at BCU, the 6th Global Reggae Conference at the University of the West Indies at Mona, Jamaica, and ‘Re-imagining the music photographic portrait’, at Documenting Jazz, BCU.

William’s collaborative work with Prof Tim Wall at BCU consolidates his One LP project into further research into photographic practice in jazz, reggae and soul music cultures. This culminated in a Research Catalogue publication in 2022.
