Iyan is currently producing work within the following research projects:

• Global Animal Law from the Margins: International Trade in Animals and their Bodies (dissemination phase) - Introducing an intersectional framework to global animal law to reconceptualize legal research on international trade and animal law.
• Solarpunk and Multispecies Worlding (initiation phase) - Exploring solarpunk literature in order to craft queer and hopeful methodologies for the task of multispecies legal worlding.
• Queer Ecologies of Law (initiation phase) - Exploring hopeful, queer multispecies legal imaginaries to reconceptualise law for the Anthropocene.

Iyan is also currently conducting research on the following themes:

• Animal rights and rights for nature (special issue of the Environmental Rights Review)
• Animal welfare and the sustainable development goals, focusing on reducing inequality (Collaborative work with the Stockholm Environment Institute)

Iyan has worked for animal welfare non-governmental organisations in various roles for four years. Iyan was part of a small team that established a Trade & Animal Welfare Project for a coalition of animal welfare NGOs. The objective of this project is to improve the treatment of animal welfare within EU trade policy.

Iyan also completed a two-year research partnership with a coalition of animal welfare NGOs, producing research and pursuing knowledge exchange on the labelling of animal products and compliance with World Trade Organisation law.

Iyan continues to emphasise links with practice in his work by collaborating with the UK Centre for Animal Law as well as the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark law school.
