Dr John Grayson

Research Assistant, STEAM Postdoctoral Research Fellow

School of Jewellery

The field of craft—the (hand) making of things—encompasses variety, different material disciplines; connectivity with historical making methods and material cultures; and, contemporary creative practice. Grayson has been immersed in this exciting world as both an academic within the university sector teaching ‘craft’, and as a contemporary craft practitioner making narrative-based metal automata and objects. His current research role is rooted in the metalworking heritage of the region. He draws upon skills and knowledge from his practice to construct a lens through which to researches late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century Midland metalworking trades.
