Moving to Birmingham
[Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] My dad was, he put a huge stone on his heart to like my daughter she's going to leave but he was just being very brave and showing me support but my mom when she got to know that I've got conditional letter, whenever she used to cook she start crying, whenever she used to chitchat she start crying oh you're going to leave and whenever she used to like fold my clothes as well and uh put her food to my plate she'll be like crying like okay this is I think this is the last time I'm going to see my daughter.
I was very excited I was very excited I I was feeling that once I'll be like once I'll land to Birmingham I'll be just like open my arms and just like hug Birmingham even though I can't get all of it but um I was very excited but somehow when when I got into the plane I was I started having second thought I was like what am I doing why I'm going, I'm a family person.
When I arrived here my uncle and Aunt they uh they came to pick me up from airport so I was just looking outside, I was controlling my tears I was like why did I choose to come here? I'm missing my family but then um I think my aunt supported me a lot she was like you're here for you, you're going to make your family proud.
The only thing was like how will I know that you know I'm in a right friend Circle? and um is it going are they going to understand me or am I going to understand them and am I going to understand the city am I going to like do well in my studies. Being an international student it's not easy you have to take care of everything it was very difficult for me to to like understand how the whole system work because I I I was aware that there will be a lot of things which are compared to India and here is quite different.
It took like uh little bit time but as soon as I got involved in different things, I started understanding and when you understand things it's more fun and it's more interesting to blend in so uh after some time I was like yes I am all good I can do whatever, like you know? even if it's uh very difficult for me I can do it if I put my heart into it.
Do not worry when you travel here and uh explore I would say and keep on uh going to different different activities and attend universities um all kind of like um Network sessions where you'll find more more stuff about Birmingham as well.
If you're an international student and you are thinking of studying in the UK, the city of Birmingham is the ideal place to be. Birmingham City University student Jinal describes what it was like for her to settle into uni life as an international student.
