Students and staff collaborated to raise money for International Women's Day at City South Campus.
Four-hundred pounds was raised for Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid Charity, one of our chosen charities here at BCU, by students and staff in the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences to mark International Women's Day, celebrated on Friday 6 March 2020.
Staff from across the Faculty donated an array of home-made cakes and treats to sell, and students volunteered their time to help run the event. Local businesses also supported with the raffle - Morrison's on the Hagley Road donated a luxury women's hamper and Boston Tea Party donated several reusable coffee cups.
Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid Charity support women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse, and helps them towards a life that is free from fear. The charity operates a helpline Monday-Friday and offers accessible support services, including learning resources for safeguarding against domestic abuse.
As one of the largest providers of healthcare providers, where NHS figures show that women represent over three quarters of all staff, celebrating a focal point in the movement of women's rights for International Women's Day is valued and recognised.
