Introduce yourself:

I am Professor Adam Crizzle, Visiting Professor at Birmingham City University and Managing Director and Research Director at Hillcroft House Research Hub, which is a company focussed on developing modelling to enhance the understanding of human behaviour and emotional responses.

My career is spread over four decades within the fields of Human Behaviour, Research, Statistical Forecasting, Logistics and Education

What subject do you lecture?

My core programme is an MSc module titled Understanding and Managing Behaviours of Self, Teams and Organisations. I am lead facilitator of this module.

How did you get into lecturing?

I have taught for many years within both private and public sector organisations and continue to do so.  The move to academia took place in 2015. The development of Intelligent Behaviour Analytics® (IBA®) by Hillcroft House Research Hub resulted in a series of pilot programmes with students at Birmingham City University, which led to the development of the MSc Module.

What research have you conducted?

Various reports and papers have been produced on subjects such as effective communication, culture of fear, leadership and most recently on teacher well-being.

How has this made a difference?

The teacher well-being report we produced was submitted and shortlisted for the 2019 TES awards. Being shortlisted for TES was a great moment for Birmingham City University and the report authors.

The paper was titled ‘A Pilot Programme Assessing Improvements in Stress management through Self-knowledge Using Intelligent Behaviour Analytics®: a Useful Addition to the Teacher’s Toolbox’.

The IBA® framework is currently undergoing further testing within Education.   Birmingham City University is also piloting the IBA® framework within different organisations to assess its full capability.

Over the next few years we hope to demonstrate conclusively the benefits of using the IBA® framework to enhance self-knowledge for individuals, leading to improved confidence and resilience and enabling individuals to reach their full potential – a benefit for them, for the organisations they work in and for society as a whole.

What can you offer to students on the course?

Students attending this module will quickly develop self-understanding and a unique and personalised insight into ‘what makes them tick’.  Students are taught how to apply their new-found knowledge effectively within their lives.

Students are encouraged to explore how their natural management and leadership styles can be adapted and the consequence of failing to adapt.

Using the IBA® framework and as part of the process of building confidence and resilience, students are actively encouraged to self-reflect, to assess their impact on others and the impact of others on them.

The course provides a practical and reliable framework from which it is possible to manage complex situations.

Learning is via lectures, case studies and scenarios, interactive sessions, support and individualised feedback.

Students who pass this module automatically receive lifetime membership of IBA® Alumni. Birmingham City University is the only university to offer this.

IBA® Alumni membership means that our students are kept up to date with the latest IBA® thinking along with ongoing support throughout their career.

What is your greatest achievement?

I’m not there yet – BUT - my greatest achievement will be when IBA® is universally accepted as the most effective and practical framework to enhance human behaviour.

What are your future goals?

For Birmingham City University to become an acknowledged leader globally for the enhancement of human behaviour using the IBA® framework, ultimately leading to an improved society worldwide.
