Melanie Packer has always demonstrated a keen interest in communication. After graduating from Goldsmiths’ College, University of London, in 1994, Melanie spent a number of year working for television companies based in Birmingham. In 2000, Melanie’s interest shifted from the media to human communication. By 2006, Melanie had retrained as a speech and language therapist.

Graduating from Birmingham City University (then University of Central England), Melanie went on to work specifically within the Early Years, supporting children, families in clinic, nurseries, Children’s Centres and in their homes. In 2009, Melanie became one of the founding members of award winning programme: Warwickshire’s ‘time to talk’™ team. Between 2014 - 2015, she combined working with ‘time to talk’™, and an Early Years Lead role in Oxfordshire. By the end of 2015, she returned full-time to Warwickshire and took the Lead SLT role with ‘time to talk’™. Melanie has been a member the teaching team here at BCU since 2018.

Melanie’s particular areas of interest include workforce development, narrowing the language gap perpetuated by social inequalities and promoting the use video reflection within therapy and supervision.
