There has never been a better time to study Engineering in Birmingham due to the burgeoning job opportunities that are available! Home to the Jewellery Quarter, Victoria Square and the Grand Central, Birmingham is a city of regeneration and the second largest city in the U.K. Studying amid this urban redevelopment, you will be in the perfect environment to be working on an array of live projects.
1. Jaguar Land Rover
One of Birmingham’s largest automotive companies that develops and manufactures the iconic Jaguar and Land Rover. We’ve also had our students undertake placement years here.
2. Formula Student
Every year our engineering students take part in the Formula Student event that is run by the IMechE at Silverstone. This project requires students to design, plan and build an impressive single seater race car to compete against other universities!
HS2 is adjacent to our city centre campus and will positively impact the way the city is developing by connecting other major cities - boosting the city’s workforce. Plus, it will minimise a commuter’s journey time going to and from Birmingham – it’s an estimated 49 minutes to travel from Birmingham to London.*
4. Home to major Engineering firms
Birmingham is the U.K home of engineering, employing over 100,000 people in the industry. Major manufacturing businesses including MG and Jaguar Land Rover are based in the West Midlands — and we have links with many of them.
5. Work placements
To help you stand out in today’s competitive jobs market, our courses offer a placement option. Some of our students have completed placements at companies including: Network Rail, BMW, Nissan, WLF Innovations Ltd and Renault.
6. Investing in your future
We've invested £6.5 million on improvements to our Millennium Point facilities, including state-of-the-art specialist engineering labs and a project space with a makers’ area, to ensure you have the best possible environment for practice-based learning.
7. WISE members
We are members of WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) who host an annual Women in Engineering Day, demonstrating our values for diversity and commitment in encouraging more females to choose engineering careers. Check out the WISE scholarship we offer to see if you’re eligible!
8. Youngest city in Europe
Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe with under 25's accounting for nearly 40% of its population so there will be plenty of opportunity to meet people your age.
