The RBC Trombone Choir meet every Tuesday evening and rehearse under the direction of the Conservatoire’s Head of Brass, Ed Jones. In October 2024, the ensemble gave the world premiere of Ian Schwalbe’s Through the Concrete Forest during the British Trombone Festival here in Birmingham. Recent performances have also included a successful trip to Wells Cathedral School in February 2025.

Jhih-Yi (Chloe) Chang (pictured) was born in Taiwan and started learning piano at six years old and picked up the French Horn at the age of nine. In September 2021, Chloe commenced her undergraduate studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Now in her final year, she has been under the tutelage of Andrew Littlemore, Elspeth Dutch, Jeremy Bushell, Simon De Souza and Ursula Monberg.

During her time at Conservatoire, Chloe has been awarded places on multiple orchestral schemes, gaining a place on the CBSO and Birmingham Royal Ballet Sinfonia schemes respectively.

A keen chamber musician, Chloe is a founding member of the award-winning Epsilon Brass quintet who have enjoyed performing in notable venues such as the CBSO centre and St. Phillip’s Cathedral. A major performance highlight for Chloe was playing principal horn in Mahler’s Symphony No.5 in Symphony Hall, where she was praised for her ‘consistently excellent’ solos (Bachtrack, 2024).
