Ed Mellor (pictured) is in his penultimate year of trombone study at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, having first picked up the instrument at the age of 11.
Over the last three years, Ed has studied with Ed Jones, Rich Watkins and Amos Miller. Ed’s proactive and versatile approach to his playing has led to many opportunities, including performances at Birmingham’s Town Hall and Symphony Hall, and he regularly performs in orchestral, big band and function settings.
Sophie Henderson is a soprano, originally from Derbyshire, going into her fourth year at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studies singing under Catherine Benson and is generously supported by the Josephine Baker Trust.
During her time at RBC so far, Sophie has enjoyed roles in the spring and summer operas and Opera Scenes, as well as being a finalist in the Winifred Micklam Prize and the Birmingham Festival Choral Society Oratorio Prize.
In addition to her studies, Sophie is an experienced recitalist, and has recently enjoyed the role of First Witch in the St Endellion Festival procuction of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She also sings with multiple choirs including: National Youth Choir, the Birmingham Oratory, Ex Cathedra and St Philip’s Cathedral, where she works as a soprano lay clerk.
