Brahms Violin Sonata No.1 in G

The last of Bach’s Partitas for solo violin gets a sparkling Rachmaninoff makeover, while Ravel’s own transcription of his orchestral triumph, La valse, opens with an elegant Viennese ballroom scene and ends in swirling chaos.  Lyrical Brahms concludes today’s recital – the three inter-related movements of his First Violin Sonata forming a perfect duet between two instruments.

Misong Yeo is young pianist from South Korea who has dedicated herself to classical piano. Misong is currently completing her Master's degree in piano performance at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and broadening her repertoire under the guidance of Robert Markham and Anthony Hewitt. Having participated in various performance settings beyond solo work, including piano concertos, chamber music, choir, symphony and accompanying other instruments, she is becoming a promising and professional pianist.

Elena Toledo is a British-Cuban violinist in her fourth year of undergraduate study at RBC, where she studies with Caroline Pether. Elena recently performed as soloist for Bruch’s Violin Concerto with the Wyre Forest Symphony Orchestra and has played in masterclasses with Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Krysia Osostowicz, Oliver Wille, Bradley Creswick, and Eugene Tzikindelean.

Elena is also a dedicated chamber musician and is regularly invited to perform at chamber music festivals, including the NOVA Festival, Dante Festival, and Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival. She has received chamber music coaching with Gábor Takács-Nagy, Christoph Richter, Oliver Heath, Thomas Riebel, and David Waterman.

As an orchestral musician, Elena frequently plays as an auditioned extra with the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester. She has performed many concerts, tours in the UK and Spain, and Live BBC Radio broadcasts with them, and has performed under conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Thomas Adès, Alpesh Chauhan, Jonathan Bloxham, and with soloists Nicola Benedetti and Steven Isserlis.
