BPO: Czech Myths and Legends
Suk Dramatic Overture
Janáček Žárlivost
Dvořák The Water Goblin
Smetana Excerpts from Má vlast
Conductor Jack Lovell-Huckle
Journey into the heart of the Czech Republic with a concert inspired by myths, legends, landscapes and stories - brought vividly to life by the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra under Music Director Jack Lovell-Huckle.
The concert opens with Josef Suk’s thrilling Dramatic Overture, before moving to the intense passion of Janáček’s Žárlivost (Jealousy).
Dvořák’s atmospheric The Water Goblin then takes us into the darker world of Czech folklore. Based on one of the legendary tales from Karel Jaromír Erben’s Kytice, this evocative symphonic poem tells a chilling story of love, betrayal and supernatural forces.
The concert culminates in music from Smetana’s Má vlast (My Country), perhaps the ultimate musical portrait of the Czech nation. From sweeping landscapes to ancient legends, Smetana’s richly evocative music captures the spirit, history and beauty of his homeland.
With its combination of drama, folklore and unforgettable melodies, Czech Myths and Legends promises an afternoon of orchestral storytelling at its most vivid.
Experience the legends, landscapes and passions of Czech music in this captivating Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra concert.
