We have developed powerful partnerships with some of the biggest names in industry, offer businesses to access cutting-edge skills and techniques that are in high demand across the industry.
We have been awarded membership of Microsoft's Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) and Microsoft Dynamics Alliance (MSDA), and have already established ourselves as one of Microsoft's top UK, university-based academies.
Access to the MSDNAA enables both staff and students to develop expertise, and knowledge and Microsoft certification that will help them prepare them for the modern workplace.
Students enrolled at the Microsoft IT Academy can use the extensive library of software on their home computer while they complete their course. This is particularly useful if you are studying part-time or professional development courses.
Birmingham City University is a Cisco Systems UK training centre. The University has recently launched new security courses to academies throughout the British Isles and is also responsible for quality assurance in Cisco Academies all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Our Cisco programmes are subject to the Cisco Academy quality assurance programmes, which ensure that resources and trainers are of the highest standard. This partnership prepares you for the industry-standard certifications CCNA and CCNP, and has also developed an alumni association that can help secure graduates employment on a global platform.
Programmes combine lectures, online learning and practical, hands-on skills that apply classroom learning to real networks.
We support and train instructors from more than 300 academies throughout Europe and Russia, and provide training in internet working technology for the public and for Cisco Academy instructors, through the Cisco Systems Networking Academy programme.
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) is the voice of the world's IT sector, and certification by the organisation is often recommended in the IT profession. Students enrolled in the CompTIA Academy can certify and upgrade their skills using CompTIA vendor-neutral IT certifications as a stepping stone to vendor-specific accreditations, such as Cisco and Microsoft.
Linux Professional Institute (LPI) academy
Did you know that Linux can be found at the heart of many of the latest technologies? Whether it's the latest smartphones, a TiVo box, an Internet server or a world leading supercomputer, Linux is likely be the platform powering it.
Birmingham City University's Linux Professional Institute Academy offers training for current students, other academic institutions and the general public. Current students can participate in certification 'boot camps' and make use of specialist learning technologies to make studying and passing LPI exams easier than ever. The Academy also offers consulting services to academic institutions and industry. Classroom based and blended learning course are offered to the public, making use of our own custom learning materials and the best commercially available materials. All LPI candidates can sit their exam on-site at our Pearson Vue and LPI test centres.
Academy staff not only teach and support others in acquiring LPI qualifications but have also been involved in developing and testing the exams. Our School delivered the worlds' first trial exam for the Linux Essentials programme and were also the first in the world to deliver a train-the-trainer programme for the exam.
The Oracle Academy within the School helps students gain industry-relevant skills. As members of the Oracle Academy we have access to computing education resources that are up-to-date, industry-relevant, and engaging. Students are able to use the software on their home computers.
Oracle Academy staff and students receive substantial discounts on Oracle certification preparation products and exams. These resources help them earn a valuable distinction recognized throughout the IT industry. The Oracle Academy at the University also plans to become the Midlands Adjunct Training centre for delivering Train the Trainer programmes in the areas of Database Design, Database Programming with SQL, Database Programming with PL/SQL, Java Fundamentals and Java Programming to schools and further education colleges in the Midlands region.
The SAS Student Academy at Birmingham City University enables our students to acquire core skills in both SAS Base Programming and SAS Enterprise Guide, plus statistics and data mining using SAS tools. Currently serving the UK and Ireland, we are the only ‘Train the Trainer Academy’ outside the USA.

To complete the full test curriculum, you will be required to undertake additional short courses and/or independent study. As a Pearson Vue and Prometric testing centre, we are able to offer these certification tests in-house at an additional cost.
