Andrew is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computing and Data Science,School of Computing and Digital Technology. He has developed and led many undergraduate and post graduate courses.
As well as teaching he is an active researcher in the field of digital health, working across faculties, NHS Trusts and European collaborators.
He develops computer-based systems to support both clinical doctors and patients. With particular interest in the human and psychological factors associated with the adoption and use of technology in healthcare settings; publishing numerous journal articles, book chapters and conference presentation in this area.

He teaches software design and development on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Andrew's personal interests are in the use of technology to support research in medicine and health care. This is predominantly in the field of physical and mental health whereby he works with interdisciplinary teams to create novel and clinically relevant software solutions.

Research
His current research interests and collaborations, with both local NHS partners and regional medical schools, are in the area of developing digital technology solutions for medicine and healthcare, for example:
- Serious games and computer game based learning in medicine and healthcare
- The use of virtual and augmented reality in clinical training and patient rehabilitations
- Mobile Healthcare technology
- Digital healthcare solution as non pharmaceutical interventions
- Human computer interactions in game based healthcare technologies.

- Computer games and simulations for use in medical education
- Development of heuristics and analytics for serious game development
- Emotions, empathy and personalisation in serious games
- Virtual reality exergaming for health and rehabilitation.
