Dr Andrew Wilson

Andrew Wilson teaches on the following courses:

• BSc (Hons) Computer Games Technology
• MSc Computer Science

He teaches software design and development on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  

Andrew's personal interests are in the use of technology to support research in medicine and health care. This is predominantly in the field of physical and mental health whereby he works with interdisciplinary teams to create novel and clinically relevant software solutions.

His current research interests and collaborations, with both local NHS partners and regional medical schools, are in the area of developing digital technology solutions for medicine and healthcare, for example:

• Serious games and computer game based learning in medicine and healthcare
• The use of virtual and augmented reality in clinical training and patient rehabilitations
• Mobile Healthcare technology
• Digital healthcare solution as non pharmaceutical interventions
• Human computer interactions in game based healthcare technologies.

Andrew would welcome submissions of interest from suitable applicants for MPhil or PhD projects in the following areas:

• Computer games and simulations for use in medical education
• Development of heuristics and analytics for serious game development
• Emotions, empathy and personalisation in serious games
• Virtual reality exergaming for health and rehabilitation.
