Taking a Higher Education course is a big investment in your future, and you’ll want to be sure that you’re choosing the right course and the right university.
If you’re considering studying at BCU, you wouldn’t be alone - we welcome over 24,500 students from over 100 countries! Here’s a quick run through of why Birmingham City could be the right university for you.
The right career for you
When choosing your university, you’ll want to know that you’re going to boost your chances of having a great career after you graduate.
We’re committed to ensuring that you develop the skills and experience employers need. So much so that 97% of our graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduation. This is the 7th highest in the UK for multi-faculty universities and means that our graduates are the most employable in Birmingham. (Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey 2016/17).
So how do you get these employability skills during your time here?
- We work with global brands and big-name employers like the BBC, the NHS, Jaguar Land Rover, Cisco, Microsoft and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
- All of our courses incorporate work-related experience, with many giving the option of a year-long placement.
- Our teaching staff come from and maintain their links with industry and the professions, ensuring you benefit directly from their knowledge, insight and contacts.

The right location for you
Being in the right place is key. You’ll want to know that your university is near or far away enough from home, that you can travel to and from easily and that everything you need for a great student experience is on hand.
Study with us and you will be located at the heart of the dynamic city of Birmingham – with excellent social experiences and employment opportunities on your doorstep. In fact, Birmingham was recently declared the most rapidly improving city in the country in which to live and work (Good Growth for Cities index 2017).
Not only is Birmingham one of the UK’s youngest, most exciting and diverse cities, it’s also one of the most accessible. We are at the centre of the UK’s road, rail and coach networks, so travelling further afield is no problem, while commuting from the surrounding area to our centrally located campuses is easy to do. The right facilities for you
As well as being in a generally all-round nice place, it’s going to be important to know that your university has everything you need to be successful on your course.
We have invested £340 million across our buildings and facilities to give you the very best learning environment to shape your experience. Our campuses are modern, dynamic spaces for you to learn in with state-of-the-art resources.
So whether you’ll need specialist equipment, or the right spaces to practise the skills you’ll need for your career, we’ve got them. Did you know we have one of the largest fixed green screen TV studios in the UK? More about our facilities.
And don’t forget those little extras…
The little things often go a long way.
To welcome all new home and EU undergraduate students starting in 2019, we're giving away £150 worth of credit to spend in a host of ways, on books and a range of learning materials. Even better, it doesn't have to be repaid.
Fancy going abroad? You may have the opportunity to study abroad at one of our partner universities as part of an international exchange programme linked to your degree. You can also apply to study or work abroad with Erasmus+ (within the EU) where you may benefit from a grant that can contribute to some of the costs during your stay overseas.
