There are many positives about studying the Built Environment in Birmingham and one of them is being able to access our kit. Discover exactly what extra kit you’ll use on your course and how it will enhance your academic experience.
Built Environment students are provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes high-vis clothing and hard hats, however you will need to buy your own safety boots. Also at BCU you can hire out a laptop on demand by utilising the largest installation of Lapsafe loan laptops in Europe.
If you’re an Architectural Technology or Building Surveying student you will have access to the full Autodesk suite of programmes which can be used to visualise, simulate, and analyse real-world performance using a digital model in the design process. Autodesk is hailed as very user-friendly software.
As a Construction Management or Quantity Surveying student you will utilise a range of industry costing and programming packages including modelling packages like Synchro for 4D modelling or NavisWorks used for clash detection. You will also use 5D costing packages like CostX and Bluebeam Revu, which is widely used in industry to elevate project efficiency and collaboration.
Real Estate students can access software such as CoStar which is a leading database of commercial property. At BCU, we are also beginning to use new commercial software such as Argus Developer and Enterprise for property development and management.
Hopefully all this kit will inspire you to think of all the possible outcomes you could achieve and given you a better insight into what it’s like to study with us.
