Built Environment students are provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes high-vis clothing and hard hats, however you will need to buy your own safety boots. You can also hire a laptop by utilising the largest installation of Lapsafe loan laptops in Europe.

If you’re an Architectural Technology or Building Surveying student you will have access to the full Autodesk suite of programmes. These can be used to visualise, simulate, and analyse real-world performance using a digital model in the design process. Autodesk is hailed as very user-friendly software.

Built Environment Software

As a Construction Management or Quantity Surveying student you will utilise a range of industry costing and programming packages, including modelling packages such as Synchro for 4D modelling, or NavisWorks used for clash detection. You will also use 5D costing packages like CostX and Bluebeam Revu, which is widely used in industry to elevate project efficiency and collaboration.

Real Estate students can access software such as CoStar, this is a leading database of commercial property. At BCU, we are also beginning to use new commercial software such as Argus Developer and Enterprise for property.
