Emmanuel supervises postgraduate and doctoral research across a range of built environment disciplines, including sustainable housing, construction management, indoor environmental quality, digital construction, construction safety and housing decarbonisation. He has supported research students at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, helping them develop robust research skills, engage with industry challenges and disseminate their work through conferences, publications and professional networks.
In addition to his supervisory activities at Birmingham City University and partner institutions, he contributes to researcher development nationally and internationally through his role with the Association of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM). He regularly supports doctoral and early-career researchers through workshops, mentoring and methodological training, and has been invited to contribute to doctoral examination and quality assurance processes at universities in the UK and internationally. His approach emphasises academic rigour, professional relevance and the development of independent researchers capable of shaping future practice within the built environment sector.
Emmanuel works extensively with industry partners to ensure that teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities generate real-world impact for students, practitioners and communities. His collaborations span housing developers, contractors, professional bodies, government organisations and local authorities, with a particular focus on sustainable housing, decarbonisation, digital construction and professional practice.
