Lashonte Royal has won the Newly Qualified Children’s Social Worker of the Year Award, 12 months after graduating from the BSc Social Work course.
The Social Worker of the Year Awards celebrated “the inspirational achievements of an often overlooked profession” and took place on 17 October at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
Children’s social workers play a key role in ensuring young people feel safe and secure regardless of their family situation. They frequently collaborate and conduct investigations with the Police and other agencies, which can result in meetings with a family to share information and agree a plan of support. Building trust with the families and having good communication skills are an essential part of the job, as are accurate risk assessment and decision-making.
