Olivia Heaney

BA Interior Architecture and Design

Olivia has lived with serious health challenges since childhood, but her time at Birmingham City University has helped her find confidence, support, and a sense of belonging.

In January, Olivia was diagnosed with Endometriosis and placed into an induced menopause to manage the physical pain she had been experiencing.

While the treatment improved her symptoms physically, it also took a major emotional toll, leading to severe mental health struggles. Just one month later, Olivia experienced a house fire at her home and was later diagnosed with PTSD.

Olivia says BCU has “set the standard” for student support, helping her continue her studies during an incredibly difficult period in her life.

Studying Interior Design has become a source of peace and purpose for Olivia, who says she has never felt more herself than when she is creating and designing spaces.
