You're warmly invited to join us for our Creative Writing Summer Show, where we will launch Emerging - this year's anthology of creative writing by students and staff at the School of English, Birmingham City University.
The show will include readings of exciting new work in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Our special guest speaker is nature writer and broadcaster Paul Evans. Paul is best known as a longstanding contributor to the Guardian Country Diary column, BBC radio 4 natural history documentaries and environmental journalism. He is the author of Herbaceous (Little Toller 2014), Field Notes from the Edge (Rider 2015), How To See Nature (Batsford 2018) and editor of the anthology Poetry Rebellion (Batsford 2021). He has a background in horticulture, performance and nature conservation, a PhD in philosophy and is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing in the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University. He lives in Shropshire and - in his own words - 'wanders around thinking about what Nature is and how the hell it can be written during an ecological crisis'.
This is a FREE event - simply register through Eventbrite.
Wine and canapés will be served - and you will be able to take away FREE copies of the anthology!
This event is brought to you by the Institute of Creative and Critical Writing in the School of English at Birmingham City University. Led by Professor Gregory Leadbetter, the Institute exists to cultivate the literary arts and the life of ideas, and runs a rich programme of events throughout the year.
Join us to experience the talent, creativity and ingenuity of our final-year students as they leave the university and launch their careers.
Events will be announced soon.
