Yunci Cai is Associate Professor in Museum and Heritage Studies at the School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester. She is a critical heritage and museum studies scholar, specialising in the cultural politics and museologies in and of Asia. Trained as a geographer/anthropologist, she has interests in non-western and Indigenous museology, post-colonial studies, developmental studies and critical heritage studies, with a regional focus on Malaysia, Singapore, and China.

She holds a PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies and a Master of Arts with Distinction in Museum Studies, both from the Institute of Archaeology, University College London and a First-Class Honours in Geography from the National University of Singapore. Her monograph Staging Indigenous Heritage: Instrumentalisation, Brokerage and Representation in Malaysia (Routledge 2020) explores the politics of heritage-making at four Indigenous cultural villages in Malaysia.
