What was the inspiration behind your work?
This work is created from a keyring with fobs on it that was swapped by an individual.
I have worked with a keyring that was swapped for my object. A combination of empathy with the original owner’s interest in collecting items (in this case, key rings), the mystery of what the missing key fobs might have been and the speculative fiction of the remaining fish-fob spawning new replacement fobs.
What was it about the SWOP SHOP that interested you and enticed you to take part?
I am curious about the value we place on objects and the preconceptions that inform these decisions. Will a member of the public select Blebbing because of its decorative appearance? Does the fact that I could never duplicate the piece add to its perceived value? Does the lack of any obvious utility add or detract from its value?
