What was the inspiration behind your work?
Inspired by the multiplicities in links and connections present in the narrative of the swapped dress - a bridesmaid dress made and wore in Australia and I believe (from conversation with the swapper) for a Greek wedding.
The multiple connections this dress has (Australia, Greek diaspora, owner now residing in the UK) has got me exploring the notion of hyperlinks and how this may be more apparent in migrating cultures and especially diasporas, how objects such as raw fabric can facilitate and symbolise these links as it allows multiple renderings and usages.
What was it about the SWOP SHOP that interested you and enticed you to take part?
The notion of the swap as kind of a semi-collaborative approach to exchange and valuing of objects. I’m interested in the mechanism of the shop and how my objects (and the ideas I’ve loaded in them) will be transferred and transformed in the process.
