Glen Powis

Glen Powis-profile - 350x263

Can you tell us a little more about your project?

Hadley was designed to change the preconceptions that flat pack furniture is poor quality with little longevity. Fitting into a box which is 50mm thick, the chair will be a dependable addition to a home.

Where did the inspiration for it come from?

Inspirations came from a combination of sources. Ikea was a great inspiration for the design of a product and a box with minimal air shipping. John Lewis was used as a starting point for the environment which the design would fit into.

How important is being able to exhibit externally?

The importance of external exhibitions cannot be understated, the skill of communicating to members of the public and industry will be one which I will use throughout out my career.

What has your highlight of the course been so far?

The highlight of the course, for me, has been the opportunity to express who I am as a designer.

Could you tell us a little more about your design interests?

Due to our current environmental state I believe that designers should take responsibility to think about the environmental impacts of the products and furniture which we design. Therefore I have developed a passion for sustainable design.
