University to open its doors this weekend to prospective students

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 01 OCTOBER 2014

Birmingham City University will be opening its doors this weekend, helping would-be students make the decision on whether University is for them.

Advice and guidance will be on offer this Saturday (4 October) at the Birmingham City University Open Day, from 9am to 3pm, across three of the University’s campuses – City Centre Campus at Eastside, City South in Edgbaston and City North in Perry Barr.

At the heart of the Open Day will be a wide range of activities, exhibitions and presentations, giving visitors the chance to meet staff and students. Guided tours of campuses will show off Birmingham City University’s facilities and on-site student accommodation.

Visitors to the City Centre Campus will be able to see the impressive new Parkside Building which houses the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media. The new facility, part of an ambitious £180million investment programme, brings together the University’s world-class design and media provision to form a creative learning hub featuring industry-standard TV and radio studios, creating the biggest broadcast centre in any UK university.

The City Centre Campus is also home to the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and The Built Environment, located within Millennium Point.

For those interested in health courses, the University’s City South campus in Edgbaston is the place to be. Visit the mock wards and operating theatre, and watch paramedics as they simulate a mock accident scenario.

Visitors to City North campus will have the opportunity of attending a discussion led by one of the country’s leading criminologists and presenter of Channel Five show, Killers Behind Bars, Professor David Wilson. Professor Wilson will discuss the phenomenon of serial murder and what this might tell us about the development of British society.

The City Centre Campus tour will give prospective students the opportunity to find out further information about the University’s new Curzon Building which from 2015 will be home to the Business School, together with the Schools of English, Law and Social Sciences.

The event runs from 9am until 3pm, and prospective visitors should visit the open day registration page or call 0121 331 6295 to register and ensure they attend the relevant campus for the subjects they are interested in.
