Dr Mohamed Ihmeida
Dr Mohamed Ihmeida is a Lecturer in Smart Computer Systems in the Computer Science Department at Birmingham City University. His research sits at the intersection of computer vision, artificial intelligence, and remote sensing, with a particular focus on Synthetic Aperture Radar image change detection, image registration, and speckle-robust deep learning for Earth observation applications.
Dr Ihmeida teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At Birmingham City University, he delivers modules including Computer Systems, Applied AI for Cybersecurity, Applied Machine Learning for Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals. He is Module Leader for Applied Machine Learning and has contributed to module and assessment design within the MSc Cybersecurity programme. He supervises student research projects across AI and computing, including multiple undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, a PhD student, and three Research Assistants.
Previously, Dr Ihmeida held Lecturer and Visiting Lecturer roles at Buckinghamshire New University, where he contributed to developing the blended BSc Computer Science programme and designed and introduced a dedicated Computer Vision module. During his PhD at the University of Reading, he also supported teaching across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules including AI, databases, security, and networking.
Alongside academia, Dr Ihmeida has more than eight years of industry experience including work as a Network Engineer at GECOL and earlier engineering roles in biomedical and electrical consultancy. He contributes to research and funding activity, publishes in remote sensing and AI venues, and serves as a reviewer for AI and computer vision conferences and Q1 journals such as MDPI Remote Sensing and MDPI Drones.
