Digbeth

Digbeth may have had a glow-up into the trendy hotspot it is today, but that hasn’t always been the case. Digbeth had formerly been part of the Deritend area of Birmingham, and home to the Sheldon family – the inspiration for the Shelbys. Digbeth is also home to plenty of Peaky Blinders inspired street art, but the real gem here is The Old Crown, Birmingham’s oldest pub, which opened in 1368 and may well have hosted the real life Peaky Blinders.

Garrison Lane

Formerly believed to be the home of the original ‘The Garrison’ pub, which inspired the setting for the gang’s iconic boozer in the series. Though currently abandoned, the old pub building still stands on the corner of Garrison Lane, allowing fans to get a taste of the history that inspired their favourite show.

West Midlands Police Museum

The city’s Victorian lock-up has been transformed into a museum showcasing the history of West Midlands Police. The museum’s ‘The Macabre Museum’ tours offer some of the darker stories of Birmingham’s history, including stories of the Peaky Blinders activities in the city. The below image is a group of Special Constables from the area during the First World War. These men may well have had run ins with the notorious gang!

Birmingham Back to Backs
