Welcome Message

A very warm welcome to all students who have chosen to undertake the MSc Social Work course here at Birmingham City University. Our aim and vision is to develop employable social workers who are skilled, evidence informed and able to transform lives and build better futures.

Your course is approved by the regulator for social work in England (Social Work England) and therefore, on successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Qualified Social Worker.

Based in the superdiverse city of Birmingham, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a diverse community, and work with an experienced professional and academic team and those who have lived experience to develop necessary skills to apply legal, political and theoretical knowledge and professional values to social work practice.

We would therefore like to welcome you to the MSc Social Work during our induction week on 14th September. You will meet the social work teaching team and have opportunity to meet social work practitioners, experts by experience, current social work students and learn more about our fantastic student support services.

We recognise that managing your studies can be daunting and should you need any help or advice on any matter relating to your course, please don’t hesitate to contact the course lead for the social work team. Additional information about the University, life in Birmingham, and the advice and support available to all students will be made available to you over the coming weeks as we welcome you to BCU.

We look forward to meeting you and forging a valuable and supportive relationship that continues throughout your studies and future career.
