Welcome Message
Thank you for choosing our MSc Quantity Surveying (QS) programme at Birmingham City University (BCU). Welcome! The programme is designed for educating practitioner professionals, cognate graduates and high calibre non-cognate graduates with strong knowledge from other disciplines, outstanding employment records or academic results to focus on adding value through demonstrating excellent knowledge and skills in managing cost and information, advancing quantity surveying practices and procedures, and managing risks effectively. This involves the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, business development, team collaboration, cost management skills and the awareness of sustainability in the built environment to ensure construction projects are delivered to the satisfaction of the client and other construction professionals and to influence a better future in the built environment.
You are invited and strongly encouraged to attend Induction Week (w/c 14 September). This will be an important opportunity to meet academic staff and fellow students, familiarise yourself with the university and its facilities, and learn about the support available to help you settle into the postgraduate study. The Students’ Union Fairs will take place on 16-17 September at the City Centre Campus. The MSc QS at BCU is a conversion course which means many of our students will come from non-construction background. As part of the Induction Week, you will be introduced and registered onto a short (optional) pre-course, which has relevant reading materials including books, papers, videos and even online practice quizzes with relevant tutor support. Completing the pre-course during the induction week is highly recommended to ease you into the MSc QS, which has been designed for non-cognate and cognate graduates alike.
Throughout your studies, you will be supported by your personal tutor, the course team and a range of university support services.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
