Welcome Message

Welcome to the BSc (Hons) in Professional Policing Degree in the Department of Criminology and Sociology within the School of Law and Social Sciences. On behalf of the Professional Policing Team, we are looking forward to helping you through the next part of your academic journey. The BSc Professional Policing course combines operational policing skills and expertise, with academic evidence and rigour.

We teach in 3 hour interactive workshops which encourage participation and helps build key skills such as teamworking and communication. You will be expected to actively participate in all modules that you will study, as well as the exciting trips, guest lectures and events we organise to ensure and encourage independent learning and a diversity of exposure to policing partners and wider criminal justice organisations. You will learn about key topics such a Models of Policing, Police Powers, VAWG, and Criminal Investigations and Forensics.

Our authentic approach to assessments means that instead of sitting exams, you will have opportunities to engage in more applied scenarios such as role play stop and searches; crime scene analysis and mock police interviews. Students on this course are strongly encouraged to undertake placements and you will be supported to find a suitable opportunity. We also have a module dedicated to the police application process to ensure the best chance of graduate employability success.

You will be supported by an enthusiastic teaching team, and well as receiving pastoral support from a dedicated personal tutor who will be there to support you from day one. We look forward to participating in your education over the coming years and wish you all the best in your studies. See you in September!
